Past symposiums
Croatian Botanical Society organizes several symposiums, amongst which Croatian Botanical Symposium has the longest tradition. First Croatian Botanical Symposium was held in 2004, less than 2 years after the Society was founded. With time, it became a central botanical event in Croatia where all important botanical research is presented, and new knowledge is exchanged among botanists.
From the Foreword of the Book of Abstracts: “Therefore the aim of First Croatian Botanical Symposium is the promotion of collaboration and exchange of scientific and expert information from the field of botany, between botanists and experts from similar fields, and potential users of botanical data, from Croatia, neighbouring European countries and wider.” This was also the guiding thought for the organization of next editions of the Croatian Botanical Symposium, all of which gathered significant number of participants outside Croatia as well. The Symposium is organized continuously every three years and regularly includes plenary lectures, oral presentations, poster presentations, social events and botanical excursions.
7th Croatian Botanical Symposium
Held in 2022 in Zagreb, coordinated by the president of the Organization Committee Dr. Vedran Šegota, at the time president of the Society.
10th Conference of European Committee for Conservation of Bryophytes
Held in 2022 in Botanical Garden in Zagreb, co-organized by Croatian Botanical Society and European Committee for Conservation of Bryophytes (ECCB). The president of the Organizing Committee was Prof. Antun Alegro.
7th European Phycological Congress
Held in 2019 in Zagreb, under the sponsorship of Federation of European Phycological Societies (FEPS).
6th Croatian Botanical Symposium
Held in 2019 in Zagreb, hosted by Faculty of Science in Zagreb. The president of the Organizing Committee was Mara Vukojević, was vice-president of the Society at the time.
5th Croatian Botanical Symposium
Held in 2016 in Primošten, coordinated by the president of the Organization Committee Dr. Ivana Rešetnik.
4th Croatian Botanical Symposium
Held in 2013 in Split, hosted by the Faculty of Science in Split. The president of the Organizing Committee was Prof. Mirko Ruščić.
3rd Croatian Botanical Congress
Held in 2010 in Jezera on the island Murter, organized by Dr. Marija Pandža from the Elementary school “Murterski škoji”.
2nd Croatian Botanical Congress
Held in 2007 in Zagreb, hosted by the Faculty of Agriculture in Zagreb. The president of the Organizing Committee was Dr. Mihaela Britvec.
1st Croatian Botanical Symposium
Held in 2004 in Zagreb, hosted by the Faculty of Science in Zagreb. The president of the Organizing Committee was Prof. Božena Mitić.
6th Balkan Botanical Congress
Held in 2015 in Rijeka, hosted by Natural History Museum in Rijeka. The president of the Organizational Committee was Dr. Željka Modrić Surina.
Symposium Evolution of Biodiversity on the Balkans
Held in 2012, hosted by the Botanical Garden of the Faculty of Science in Zagreb. The symposium emerged from the trilateral project which included botanists from Croatia, Serbia and Austria.
