Post congress excursion

National Park Sjeverni Velebit

Post congress excursion is organized in National Park “Sjeverni Velebit”, the youngest national park in Croatia declared in 1999. The Park encompasses a whole array of protected areas: Strict Reserve „Hajdučki i Rožanski kukovi“, Botanical Reserve „Visibaba“, Botanical Reserve „Zavižan-Balinovac-Velika kosa“, Forest Reserve „Borov vrh“ and Special Reserve of Forest Vegetation „Štirovača“. The Park includes one of the deepest pits in the world, Lukina jama (1431 m) and the famous Velebit botanical garden. The Park is one of the most famous Croatian hiking and mountaineering destinations, with a network of hiking trails, the most famous being the 57 km long “Premužićeva staza”. Velebit Mountain is one of the centres of endemism in Croatia, with over 80 endemic plant taxa.

The excursion includes an organized botanical tour on Zavižan, in the Botanical garden and partly on “Premužićeva staza” trail. It also includes a trip into “Kuća Velebita” in the Krasno village, lunch, and a degustation of local homemade products from small family businesses.
