The city of Osijek (97,000 inhabitants) is the fourth largest city in the Republic of Croatia, and the economic, educational, administrative and cultural centre of the Osijek-Baranja County. It is located in the plain along the right bank of the Drava River, about 20 kilometres from its confluence with the Danube. Osijek is well connected with other cities in Croatia and abroad by road, rail and air connections.

Osijek is located halfway between the capitals of Croatia, Serbia, Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Driving by car from Zagreb (highway A3 and A5), Belgrade and Budapest takes about 2.5 hours, and from Sarajevo about 4 hours. Osijek is 50 km from the border with Hungary, 35 km from Serbia, and 100 km from Bosnia and Herzegovina. With Zagreb and other major cities in Croatia, Osijek is connected by railway and frequent bus lines. Domestic air lines connect Osijek with Zagreb, Rijeka, Split and Dubrovnik, and foreign lines with Munich.
